Biography
Mike is a PhD candidate in the Health Research Methodology Program (HRM) at McMaster University,
working under the supervision of Dr. John N. Lavis and concurrently pursuing a diploma in Health Services and
Policy Research.
He holds a BHSc from McMaster, transferred from the MSc HRM program to the PhD program and
also completed one year of political science training at the University of Toronto.
Through his thesis, Mike is:
1) developing a searchable online database of systematic reviews with
user-friendly summaries for CBOs in three sectors (HIV/AIDS, cancer, and mental health and addictions) and
2) evaluating the effects of a literature service on CBO executive directors' intention to
use research evidence using a randomized controlled trial.
Mike also holds three CIHR grants (one as co-principal investigator and two as co-investigator),
has co-facilitated a series of five workshops at the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
about using research evidence in health policymaking and has recently been awarded a
CIHR-IHSPR Rising Star Award for 2009.
