Sandy Dunn

Biography

Sandy Dunn has over twenty-five years experience in the field of neonatal care - as a clinician, transport nurse, educator, and lactation consultant. She currently holds positions on: a) the Neonatal Transport Team in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario; and b) the Perinatal Partnership Program of Eastern and Southeastern Ontario (PPPESO) as a Perinatal Coordinator. Sandy has a Joint Appointment with the University of Ottawa, School of Nursing and teaches two Neonatal Intensive Care Courses in the Perinatal Concentration of the Post RN Program. She is a certified instructor for the ‘Acute Care of at Risk Newborns’ (ACoRN) and ‘Neonatal Resuscitation Program’ (NRP) programs, and she is also an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).

Sandy completed a Bachelor of Nursing Science at Queen’s University and a Masters in Education and Masters of Science in Nursing at the University of Ottawa. Her MScN thesis topic was entitled, ‘The Relationship between Vulnerability Factors and Breastfeeding Duration’. She is currently enrolled as a full-time doctoral student (Nursing) at the University of Ottawa. Her doctoral thesis topic is, ‘The Relationship between Interprofessional Teamwork, Patient Safety and Neonatal Outcomes in NICU’. Sandy is a recipient of the CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship Doctoral Award (2006).
